Grey Randall, Private Dick #1

Meet Grey Randall, a hard-boiled detective whose sense of humor makes it hard for him to stay strictly noir. It's 1948 in Las Vegas—the newborn Sin City—and he's just landed his first murder case. He's more at ease among the lowlifes, but his new client, a beautiful, wealthy woman, a real femme fatale, moves in the upper crust of society.

Grey's hot on the trail of a killer, despite obstructive cops who don't want a private dick sniffing around and digging up secrets. And he starts getting close to the truth, but one of his suspects, Phillip Martin, AKA Mr. Big—AKA Mr. Beautiful—proves to be a man who could force Grey to reveal a dark secret of his own.

Really Fun read, Catt. When can we look forward to #2?

Well, and I answer only 6 months later. And the answer is I don't know. I was halfway through the second book when a client hit me with a request that I produce a video for him. Something I've never done, but I was glad for the opportunity. Knowing this client, maybe I shouldn't have been so sanguine, but while the process was fascinating and I learned a lot, the client could not make up his mind! It took more time than it should have, but we came out with a great product and then his company sold his division. Le sigh.

I managed to write exactly one thing last year. I'm hoping this year will see me finishing the second case along with some other things.

And I'm so sorry to take so long to reply. I really appreciate your taking the time to comment. :-)

So I just finished reading this book (I mainly bought it because I love the private dick story you posted on your other lj) and I loved this one too! Possibly more! I loved the detail and the plot. I cant wait for the second case!

Thank you so much for commenting and also for loving it. I am a sucker for good comments. :-) I was halfway through the second case when a huge job fell on me and that was all I did last year, was work the day job. I am hoping to get back into the second case soon. I'm glad you liked this one and my other series too. I hope you'll still be around when I finally get back to it. I don't think I wrote more than one short story last year, and I really miss the writing. And Grey. Thank you so much! :-)

ahh! I just reread it (I think I'll reread it every year near my bday, cus thats when my bestie got it for me) and I'm hopping you'll get back to the second case! Dont worry I'm sure I'll be around to squeal all over Grey and eat it all up! :)!! I'll just sit over here and cheer you on!!

Thank you very much! I'm so glad you enjoyed it again. My whole writing schedule was put on hold because my mother had a heart attack, which luckily, she came back from. Her health has taken a hit but she's doing pretty well for her age. I had the second one halfway written when it happened, so I have not yet returned to it, but I will! And thank you so much for taking the time to comment! :-)

Hey, I just finished reading this book, and I must say, it was awesome. I love Gray Randall he's so funny, his perspective on things is so refreshing and always manages to make me laugh. The mystery was intriguing, although I admit after a little while it was obvious, but the still enjoyable to read.

I read your previous comment about the second book and am hoping there will be a second one, it would be awesome to see how Grey and Mr. Big's relationship span out. :D On that note I went to your other LJ page and saw the other Detective story that seems a lot like this one, I'm eager to read more, but don't want to ruin it for myself if you do happen to publish more. So I was just wondering if I did read what was on your site would I ruin any future published works in the series for myself?

I have no idea how I missed your comment and I'm so sorry that I did. I am so glad you like Grey Randall, because I do myself. LOL. I'm glad he made you laugh. I realize that this mystery was a bit more thriller than mystery but was hoping that the read was enjoyable enough that people would forgive me. I think the next one will be more on the mysterious side.

There will be more books. Last year I had a huge video project for a client. I'd never done a video before so it was exciting and educational, but also exhausting. Hopefully I'll have a more regular writing schedule this year.

You will not ruin your reading experience if you read the stories over there. There are similarities in the characters. Lily is a completely original character in the other story so I brought her along because I love her. But even though Grey and Phil do owe some physical characteristics and some traits with the other two guys, they are tougher and more noir. Some characters are completely new, some are inspired by the other stories. This first story borrowed some plot from the original fanfic, because it was a great set-up, but it's not the same. And I won't be borrowing plots from the other fanfic stories. These two guys have their own hearts and minds, and they want their own plots. So I think you can safely read the other stories if you want to. In fact, if you read the first story in the fanfic series, I don't think you'd find too much of this story. Lily's daughter was killed, but different stuff happened. When I wrote the first one, I had no idea of it becoming a series and it's quite short.

Thank you again and I hope you enjoy whatever you read!

I just finished reading this and I had to poke around online for more of your stories, and to hopefully locate a sequel (or rumors of one) for Lily White Rose Red.

You need to tack on a warning or disclaimer stating that people should not start reading Lily White Rose Red if they're in the middle of finals, I honestly could not put it down (I would even try to find hiding places to squirrel away in so I could try and read *just one more paragraph* before I'd go back to work.

All things said and done I absolutely *adore* Grey, am intrigued by Artie, and am smitten with Lily, Phil and Charlie (I won't lie, I was a little disappointed we didn't get to see Grey take Charlie to that club, but one can only fit in so much into a novel... keep 'em wanting more and all).

After I post this I shall go snoop around your kindle collection on Amazon. I can't wait to see what other goodies you have in store!

There will be a sequel. I'm just not saying when. *g* I had it halfway written when a huge RL project fell on me. I had to produce a video for a client, something I'd never done before. It was exciting, educational and exhausting. I barely got enough sleep last year and it decimated my writing time. I'm slowly getting back to it.

You alarmed me with the disclaimer until I read what kind. I can't think of a better compliment to receive than that. I always like reading a story that has me desperate to find out what happens next and for you to say that is is truly wonderful to me. I hope you did well on your finals.

I adore Grey too. Some reviewers found him unpleasant (even though they liked the book) and I was amazed because I find him so endearing, but everyone can't like the same people. Charlie will be hanging around and I'm sure she'll get to go all sorts of places with Grey. And Lily… she is one of a kind. I want to be her when I grow up. :-)

I do have other stuff out but I'm trying not to recycle my fanfic so I'm a bit slower than some other authors in getting stuff out. You may have noticed my links on the left. In fanfic, I'm catlover2x and if you click on that link, you can find other stories (for FREE!) (What am I doing?). That being said, Grey is based on a fanfic series I started and there are 7 stories in the series. The first one will certainly show you how far I've come with this character. The characters are somewhat different, there are similarities in this plot, but they are different. I doubt the following stories will follow the fanfic series, so you don't have to worry about doubling up.

I hope you enjoy whatever you find!

I remember reading this years and years ago and it's still on of my favourite books! I'm still hoping for that sequel, but just know that I never actually liked detective books, but this one was different!
